Bernie grew up in small-town, northern Alberta – the oldest child of an entrepreneur in the oilfield maintenance business. Bernie’s summer jobs with his father were always the dirtiest and most difficult – serving as a reminder to pursue higher education.
Bernie’s work is primarily with small to mid-sized, owner-operated businesses, and professional corporations –providing advice and assisting with all of their business law needs – from initial start-up to winding-down – and most everything between – including mergers, acquisitions, sales, divestitures, estate freezes, rollovers, family trusts, and other corporate reorganizations and other tax-driven maneuvers. Bernie also assists with the planning, negotiation, and drafting of all types of business contracts, such as leases, licenses, joint ventures, partnership agreements, shareholder agreements, franchising arrangements, employment & independent contractor agreements.
Bernie completed law school at The University of Western Ontario after attending the University of Alberta, where he received a Bachelor of Commerce degree. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1988 and became a Registered Trade-mark Agent in 1997.
